I have unmanagable curly hair, and I want to straighten and color it?

Alright, so I have this frizzy, curly hair that goes a little past my shoulders, and the color's this weird gold color. Frankly, I hate it. I really want a change, and mostly, I want to get it straightened and colored to something different. My aunt told me that if I did both, my hair would break off. I want different hair! ...Just don't want my hair broken off, either. Can anyone help me? I really do want to get my hair straightened and colored. I need some suggestions, advice, ect. HELP!

An easy way to color your hair without damage is to use a semi-permanent one like Redken Shades EQ. This color moisturizes and adds shine. You can also use this color immediately after a chemical straightener. I would suggest not to get a chemical straightener though. Chemical straighteners look good at first, but when your roots start growing in, they are curly. So, you would have perfectly straight hair and curly roots. You would have to get a good flat iron anyway to straighten the roots out until you could get it chemically straightened again. If you decide not to use a straightener, you could use Redken Ringlet in wet hair and let it air dry. It is a very good product and gets rid of frizz. It will give you soft, defined curls. I have used it on my African-American clients AND clients with fine hair. So it works really well on a lot of different hair types. I would use a good flat iron like a Chi Iron if you still want to wear it straight, and put Farouk Systems Silk Therapy on your hair before you flat iron it to prevent heat damage. If you want your hair a lighter color, you will have to either bleach it or use a permanent color. You cannot do a chemical straightener on the same day as a permanent color though. Your stylist could use a good semi-permanent color to tone down the gold in your hair and that would be a damage-free way of coloring your hair. Or you could go a little darker than what you have while toning down the gold. You have a lot of different options. Also, if you do get your hair colored, please buy a good shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair. This will help prevent your color from fading so you don't have to pay for another color so soon. I like Matrix Color Smart or Redken Color Extend.

If you want to get a chemical relaxer, you should not also color your whole head! Your hair WILL break off. Hair can not handle double precessing. If you are set on straight hair, the best you can do is some highlights. My hair is chemically straigtened and that is what my stylist told me. It has to be a small change.

yeah it would tear up your hair. curly hair is always dry anyway and if you colored and straightened it it would look horrible after if it didnt break. I have curly hair and i just go with my natural color and I bought a really good Chi straightener and only straighten it once every week or 2 just for a change. Or maybe you could color it and stick with the curls. Frizzy usually means dry so you dont want to do anything else to dry it out

Look up "Japanese Thermal Reconditioning". It's a professional, yet expensive treatment invented by the Japanese to straighten hair to the point where you never need to have it straightened with a flat iron or treated again -- except for the roots every 6 to 9 months. It costs around $400 to $1,000. But I think it's well worth it since regular relaxers at local hair salons will overprocess and sometimes damage your already fragile hair. So yeah, look that up and see if they have someone in your area that does it. Mind you, regular hair salons most likely doesn't do this, since they need extra training and certification in that department. Hair can also be colored afterwards, unlike relaxers which you aren't allowed to afterwards.

well i have the same problem.well i straitened it and i broke off.but it depends on how you take care of it and how old you are.do one or the other, let your hair get used to being sraitened or colored and then do the other.it works.

Before you do anything permanent, just wash and condition your hair with a curl relaxant, high shine type of product. Put (a very little) heat protect product on your hair and run through it in small sections with straightening irons.

Your hair colour will appear to have changed because the light play will be different on it. Go look at it in natural light and if you still hate the colour then try enhancing it with a few high (or low) lights.

Your aunt is right your hair will break off if you are not careful or if you use abrasive products. I have pretty much the same kind of hair and have to be careful too.

Please trust me on this and don't be tempted to drastic measure straight off.

Good luck.

if you want to straightened forever try the japanese hair relaxer is about $500 they do it in the hair salon. that will tame it for a while.

Okay, I used to have wicked curly, frizzy hair. In 7th grade I wanted a change, so I got it chemically straightened. Then a couple of months later, I got blonde highlights. My hair broke off like crazy!!!!!! So I DEFINITELY wouldn't suggest that you get a chemical straightener and dye your hair. The best thing to do is to dye your hair, wait a couple of days, and then straighten your hair with just a flat iron. The best flat irons are more expensive, around $40 or more. Make sure that is ceramic and/or has ions and stuff. Straighteners that you find in Walmart or a drugstore that only costs $20 does NOT work for really curly hair!!! Believe me! Haha so yes go to a beauty supply store. As for the coloring, I had a stylist do that for me, but I'm sure you can use anything from a drugstore, if you think that'll work and stay in for you. Good luck hun! ;)

Wash and condition it well. Set it on very large rollers, and sit under a dryer until almost completely dry. Then using a round brush, blow dry section by section. You will have straight, shiny hair with great body.

Been there, done that! I straightened my very curly hair and colored it for the last 7 years and have never had any trouble. I usually had the straightening done and then 2 days later had the color done.

You can color and straighten your hair without excessive damage but I would recommend you have it done at a salon rather than doing it at home to ensure you use the right products especially since it sounds like your hair may be very dry and may need conditioning treatments before you color and straighten it.

A good deep conditioning will help keep the hair healthy.

As for me, I've just recently gone back to my natural curl and have found a great curly hair product line that works wonders for me, it's called Ouidad. (www.ouidad.com)

Hi! I had the same problem,(frizzy hair, straiteners not working)

I just don't have curly hair.. it was REALLY frizzy and i hated it.

Anyways, right now i use Herbal Essences No more Frizz conditioner (works great! and protects even against humidity) But that wasn't enough for me! lol i went to a salon and the stylist recomended a product by "Desgin Line" it was a Flat iron spray, she said even if you don't use a flat iron just spray some on after you lightly towel dry your hair after a shower, and then blow dry it using a round brush while drying, after that, spritz on a little more! And now, i have straight hair! =) The product is "Design Line" Flat iron spray, it's in a beige colored retangular bottle! lol It works great for me! And i hope it does for you too!

Hope this helps and good luck!
